For
the first time for many years a traditional group of mummers took to
the streets, pubs and homes of Cropredy to perform on the evening of
New Year's Eve 2009. The text was closely related to that used in Adderbury
but spiced up with a number of local references to physiotherapy, post
offices and the 'Cinnamon Pantry'. The cast consisted of:
Father Christmas
Saint George
Turkish Knight
King of Egypt's Daughter
The Doctor aka Tooth Fairy
Black Prince of Paradise
King of Egypt
Steve Day
Caroline Watsham
Paul Montague
Gabrielle Esplin
Verna Wass
Stephen Wass
Paul Montague (Again)
and
they performed at the Bell Inn, Great Bourton - the world premiere,
squeezed into a packed Brasenose and performed twice at the Red Lion's
black tie dinner do before visiting (by invitation ) three private
parties. All this and some of them still had time to go and ring in the
new year! As a bonus the collection raised just over £220 for the Banbury Young Homeless Project. Thanks to everyone who took part and all those who supported us so generously - see you next year!
St.
George looks impossibly aggressive, the King of Egypt's daughter looks
impossibly seductive and the Doctor looks impossibly competent!
